Overview of family experiences of EBSNA report
Youth Voice Exclusions (The Children’s Society)
Attended primary school, but elements of heightened anxiety and EBSNA from Year 5. Has been out of school since July 2020.
Attended A&E with suicidal ideation and self harming (parents are not sure of date but believe 2019).
Mental Health worsening, with now three recent suicide attempts. Safety plan in place
Parents submitted first EHCP request, but this was turned down for assessment. Diagnosis / support received: Referred to what was known as ‘CAMHS’ and under clinician since A&E visit. Various therapeutic interventions carried out.
September 2020: Referral made for an assessment for Autistic Spectrum Condition.
October 2021: Direct referral made to Eikon for parenting support. (The referral came about as the Eikon practitioner had started working with older sibling and gained an understanding of the family situation.
A2E started intervention to support back into secondary school through weekly sessions; Eikon supported parents through weekly sessions; ongoing work from Mindworks clinician.
I have a 13-year-old who might have ADHD and dyslexia. He also doesn’t have a diagnosis. Secondary school didn’t pick up on it and we ended up home-schooling him. He now wants to go back to school. When he was at school, he kept asking to be home-schooled. He had anxiety. We waited for months for the SEN team [at the school] to do a dyslexia screening and eventually we took him out. He has never had the screening or a dyslexia diagnosis.
